Jazzy Jew's blog opinion
The most important thing in my life is music. I'm constantly listening to music, and if i'm not, i'm reading about the musicians that i obsess myself with. My tastes are varied and eclectic; I listen to punk rock, bop, fusion, hip-hop, latin music such as Tango and Salsa, Indian classical music, alternative and indie rock, and heavy metal. I currently play bass guitar in a hard rock-jazz-free improv group called Urethra Franklin. I'm always looking for new music to inspire me, and when i find an artist, I pick him or her apart and learn all that I can about them in order to better understand their message. I am a strong believer in artistic integrity, and I don't think that anyone should compromise or change the art they make in order to achieve fame or acceptance. Marketing has existed as long as entertainment has existed, and all commercially released music, art, and film, especially in the digital age, are produced and manufactured by scientists who know what kind of music is currently in demand and how to make money off the apathetic, unquestioning majority of the consuming population. I hate everyone who buys into plastic, gimmicky fads like Soulja Boy and Trey Songz, but I also hate pseudo-music aficionados who claim that "real" music doesn't come out anymore, saying that the only good music is the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Elton John, and Led Zeppelin. Though I grew up with those artists, progressing musically is a part of my personal progress in life. Right now, i'm listening to Basedgod, Teenage Jesus, and Charles Mingus. In a year, I likely will have found hundreds of new artists and forgotten about what I'm hearing now. My taste matures with my mind and my personality.
